The Bold Type

posted Aug 31, 2017, 2:05 PM by Tallia W

Are you a fan of the Devil Wears Prada. Then The Bold Type needs to be added to your DVR list.  It focuses on three best friends who all work for a women's magazine called Scarlet. We get to see each one of these characters daily lives. While they are doing their part at the company. Main characters Jane Sloan, Kat Edison and Sutton Brady are the ladies with the style and humor you will love. Each of the characters is discovering herself, and expresses herself in her own way.

Jane Sloan is a journalist for the company. Covering article topics that will grab the viewers attention. Several of them many of us can relate to.

Kat Edison the companies social media director. Getting the company involved in all the newest trends and technology.

Sutton Brady the best assistant in the entire office. She has an amazing eye for fashion. On several occasions she picked an outfit out for Jane to wear on different occasions.

The first three episodes have already aired. This show is not afraid to cover a lot of the issues that come up in today's world. Seeing how they, not only have issues that a lot of women can relate to. Then displaying how they manage to deal with the situations is very well done.

The White Princess

The series is based on the book based on author Phillipa Gregory. This is the story of Elizabeth of York, the White Queens eldest daughter. Princess Elizabeth is promised in marriage to Henry VII. If you were a fan of the book you will not be disappointed with. The 8 episode series TV series that premiered on Starz, 2017.  Although I was hoping this series would have had more episodes in it. They covered a lot that happened. I was really impressed with how much they kept the story-line with the book.

The White Princess story takes off right after the ending of The White Queen . After the death of King Richard III on the battlefield. Henry the the VII is proclaimed King of England. Princess Elizabeth is promised in marriage to the new King. In order to unite the two houses. Elizabeth is forced into this arrangement and isn't pleased. That she is to marry a person she hates and killed the man she loved. King Henry isn't trilled about marrying the daughter of the White Queen. But does it to help his reign as King.

Costume director Phoebe de Gaye did an amazing job with this series. She made each costume for he characters fit perfectly for each character. Jodie Comer who plays Princess Elizabeth looked absolutely stunning. From the time she was princess, to when she became Queen. The different fabrics and shades she wore were perfect. The jewelry she wore wasn't overdone. Simple and beautiful, perfect matching the dresses she wore for the different scenes. I was amazed how she changed her style throughout each episode. Making each one of them fit her personality and the emotions she was feeling.

To tell the Ms. de Gaye did a great job with all of the characters. Michelle Fairley's character Margaret Beaufort (My lady the Kings Mother) costumes perfectly matched the character. She was always in dark clothing. With a matching cross to go with each of them. Very fitting of Margaret and her lifestyle. Being mother to the King, she was very well dressed. Looking like a lady of the court and a religious women.

Ms. Fairley impressed me with how well she portrayed her character. She was a demanding strong willed women. Who would stop at nothing to insure that her sons reign as King. Was successful and had no problem displaying her strength of power. Of being mother to the King. I cringed every-time I heard characters say my lady the Kings Mother. Fairley certainly got the temper and controlling ways of the character down. From tell her son that she would have the Queens rooms connected to her sons. Then keeping the court in her control of what she wanted. How she wanted things done in a time of crisis. Even  when people started seeing through her lies.

My favorite line from the show was: You are to close Lady Mother step back. Strong words with several meanings and warnings, all in once sentence.

With all the success they had with the 1950 animated.Disney decided to release the live action version of Cinderella this March. I have to say that I'm deeply impressed with this movie. Of course we know the story of the little cinder girl. This was an updated version was beyond perfect. Kept with the story line. You get to see where she obtained her name. But also learn more about Cinderella before her cruel stepmother and step-sisters moved in.
The cast of the movie did a phenomenal job. But have to say that my favorite part of the movie was the costumes and set. Ms. Sandra Powell really out did herself. The costumes fit each character. Like a  well  mastered glove perfectly tailored.  I'm not going to be posting any pictures of the costumes. Why, because you need to go see the movie yourself.

There is a lot of excitement about the new series Gotham on Fox. The series is a prequel to the Batman series. Well at least that's what they are saying. Bruce Wayne is a kid now orphaned after his parents murder and is raised by Alfred Pennyworth. James Gordon is a young detective and will have his hands full.

So I watched the first few episodes of the show and so far it's not bad. Not as good as I thought it would be, but it's only had a few episodes so there will be room for improvement. The story line is good, just seems really slow.

But the upside is the casting for the show is great, the casting director should get an award. A lot of the classic Gotham criminals are have showed up. Many of them are young haven't fallen off the deep in yet, or are just getting started on their dark path. Please not that some of them do not like to be called certain names, if you do you might be offed. Fair warning!

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith is perfect as Fish Mooney. She has the character down perfectly. One of my favorite lines she has is when a certain character works for her. Isn't doing a great attention holding an umbrella.  You want to get on her bad side get her wet, you might regret that one drop of rain got on it.

Gotham is the land of opportunity for all  criminals we know and love. Where one will gladly have the other bumped off just to be able to gain more power. Let's see how far they get while young Bruce Wayne is still mourning the death of his parents. Then becomes the hero that we all know he can be.

Sleepy Hallow Season 2

The time has finally come for Season 2 of Sleepy Hallow. The ending of last season had a lot of us yelling at the TV no way, just no way. The shocker in the last episode came as big surprise. (Spoilers) With Ichabod Crane being buried alive, Katrina Crane being given taken away by the headless horseman. All thanks to their son.

Season 2 premiered in the US Mon 9/8 c on September 22, 2014

This new season is off to a good start. Ichabod freed himself from the prison, Lt. Mills is out of her own version of purgatory. Jenny seems to be her charming self and still very gun happy. While Katrina is being held captive by the headless horseman and bad situation is Captain Irving.

Henry Parrish (War) has teamed up with the Headless Horseman and is causing trouble all over Sleepy Hallow. Moloch is still making plans to escape from Purgatory. So of course this leaves our two witnesses with their hands full. Ichabod still has his great words of wisdom when it comes to correcting historical errors. Personally I find them funny, and look forward to the new episodes. When he makes his great speeches.  The writers on this show often having me laughing and crying at the same time. With all of the one liners.

Not really sure about Katrina. I know that she is Ichabod's loving wife, but she tents to leave out a lot of important details that could be really helpful. Kind of makes me wonder what side she is really on.

Every new episode has been impressive and educational at the same time. I will put this out there, won't  be able to look at one of our founding fathers the same way. ( You will have to watch this season to know what I mean.)
